Manila, Philippines — The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), through the Career Progression and Specialization Program-Credit Accumulation and Transfer System (CPSP-CATS), held a consultative meeting with the Professional Regulatory Boards (PRBs) and CPSP-CATS Committees of Nutrition and Dietetics and Medicine, along with key professional stakeholders, on 10 October 2025 at the PRC Central Office in Sampaloc, Manila.

Hon. Virgith B. Buena, Chairperson of the PRB of Nutrition and Dietetics, together with PRB Members Hon. Imelda A. Agdeppa and Hon. Rhoda Joy R. Buenviaje presided over the meeting. Joining them were Hon. Zenaida L. Antonio, Hon. Efren C. Laxamana, and Hon. Prudencio Z. Sta. Lucia Jr. from the PRB of Medicine.

The CPSP-CATS Committee for Nutrition and Dietetics was represented by Ms. Josephine L. Guiao and Ms. Maria Secundina Dinah R. Campanaro, along with Ms. Pearl G. Po, CPSP-CATS Consultant, and Ms. Marie Cecille P. Fernando, Head of the CPSP-CATS Secretariat.

Representatives from key professional stakeholders also took part in the meeting, including the Philippine Medical Association (PMA), Philippine Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (PhilSPEN), Nutritionist-Dietitians’ Association of the Philippines (NDAP), Philippine College of Medical Nutrition Physicians (PCMNP), Philippine Stakeholders for Nutrition and Dietetics (PSND), Inc., and the Department of Health–League of Registered Nutritionist-Dietitians, Inc. (DOH–LRNDI).

The discussions mainly focused on the Specialization in Clinical Nutrition, particularly on clarifying the professional scopes of practice and delineating the respective roles of physicians and Registered Nutritionist-Dietitians (RNDs), identifying the responsibilities of stakeholders in the implementation of clinical nutrition care, and formulating plans under the CPSP framework.

Building on these points, the meeting emphasized the importance of interprofessional collaboration and teamwork among health professionals, underscoring that optimal patient outcomes are achieved when each profession works in harmony while maintaining respect for their distinct areas of expertise.

This initiative reaffirms the commitment of the PRC, through the CPSP-CATS and the involved PRBs, to foster cooperation, uphold professional and ethical standards, and advance a unified framework for career progression and specialization that ensures the delivery of quality, patient-centered healthcare services.
