Manila, Philippines – Following the exploratory engagement of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) on 21 November 2024 in Melbourne, Australia, the Professional Regulatory Board (PRB) for Social Workers, together with the PRC International Affairs Office, had a meeting with the AASW and further discussed the regulatory mechanisms of both countries and explore possible collaboration through mutual recognition agreement on the practice of social work last 22 January 2025.

Representing the PRC were the PRB for Social Workers, composed of its Chairperson, Hon. Evangeline M. Guinto, and Members: Hon. Fe J. Sinsona, Hon. Maria Lyra T. Del Castillo, Hon. Jerusa C. Arante-Homo, and Hon. Vincent Andrew T. Leyson together with PRC International Affairs Office representatives: Director Melisa Jane Comafay Yeachana, Ms. Alexandra Pauline Fernando, Ms. Ella Marie Galima, and Mr. Lean Dominic San Pedro. Ms. Cindy Smith, CEO, and Ms. Genda Lapsley, an International Accreditation expert, represented the AASW.

Aiming to advance the practice of Social Work, the collaboration between AASW and PRC, through the PRB for Social Workers, shall pave the way in developing specialization programs for social workers in the Philippines aligned with the international standards, ensuring that the Filipino professionals remain competitive locally and globally.
