Ahead of the Golden Year: PRC@49

With the theme “PRC @ 49: Forging Ahead Towards Professionalism, Resiliency, and Competitiveness” the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) successfully held its 49th Founding Anniversary and 2022 PRC Week Celebration from June 16 to 22, 2022.

A year ahead before its golden anniversary, the PRC, with its creation on June 22, 1973, through Presidential Decree No. 223, has been continuously the instrument of the Filipino people in securing for the country a reliable, trustworthy, and progressive system of determining the competence of professionals by the administration of credible and valid licensure examinations and institutionalizing standards of professional practice that are globally recognized.

Honorable Commissioner Jose Y. Cueto, Jr. overall Chairman of the celebration, with the support of Hon. Chairman Teofilo S. PIlando and Hon. Commissioner Erwin M. Enad, led the preparation of the momentous event. He enjoined the participation of all PRC officials and staff as the celebration aimed at strengthening the bond of all personnel and, at the same time recognizing their dedication and hard work to the Commission.

The PRC 49th anniversary rites kicked off on June 16 with the joyous opening salvo performed by the Kalawaan Drum and Lyre. Immediately after the arrival of the PRC Bikers, the Eucharistic Mass led by Rev. Father Glenn Paul M. Gomez was celebrated with the Office of the President Chorale as the lead choir.

Day one (1) celebration was even made festive with the opening of PRC Bazaar, side by side with the fashion show of traditional Barong Tagalog and ornate Filipiniana attire. The friendly competition of Best Filipino Attire ended with twenty-five (25) best-dressed winners.

Day two (2) continued with the Philippine Federation of Professional Associations as the lead. With the assistance of the General Services Division (GSD) and the 2022 PRC Week Program Coordinators, a total of one hundred sixty-two (162) PRC personnel and Board Members got their booster shot against Covid-19.

The fun and excitement continued on the third day as the PRC officials and employees moved and grooved in the Dance Tiktok Challenge, where the PRC-Region XI was hailed as Champion, PRC-Region 1 as 1st Runner-up, and PRC-NCR as 2nd Runner-up.

Meanwhile, the Kilig Singing Content named this year’s winners both for the face-to-face and live virtual categories:

Face to Face:

Champion:                  PRC-Region IVB

1st Runner-up:            PRC-NCR

Live Virtual:

Champion:                  PRC-Region XI

1st Runner-up:            PRC-Region X

2nd Runner-up:           PRC-Region VII

Nurturing the body is equally important as nurturing the mind. From ensuring protection against Covid-19 through immediate booster vaccination to providing means to proper education, all these were realized on the fourth and fifth day of the celebration through various webinars entitled “The Future of Government Work in Post-COVID World” and “Plantito/Plantita 101: Sustainable Gardening Ideas”.

On top of that, health and wellness webinars were also conducted by the Professional Regulatory Boards – Health and Allied Cluster, namely “Vocal Hygiene: How to Take Care of Your Voice”, “Prevention of Common MSK Disorders Experienced in the WFH Enviroment”, “Himbing Sa Pagtulog Ang Hanap? Pag-usapan natin”, and “Follow a Whole Food Plant-Based Diet: What, Why, and How”.

Alongside the sponsored webinars, face-to-face health and wellness activities were held, including bone density tests, anthropometric tests, electrocardiogram tests, and several blood tests such as fasting blood sugar, complete blood count, and ABO typing benefiting the PRC officials and employees.

To give due recognition to the officers and staff who have reached milestone years in their services to the Commission, as well as the employees who have performed well for the year, a recognition program was organized and held on the last day of the week-long celebration. Leading the awardees were the recipients of Loyalty Award, Academic Achievement Award, Perfect Attendance Award, and End-term Tribute to former Professional Regulatory Boards.

On the other hand, the Regional Offices likewise proved their active participation in celebrating the PRC’s momentous event by having the professional fun run, team building activities, wellness and livelihood programs, trainings on basic life support and blood letting activities.

Overall, the weeklong celebration not only strengthened the Commission’s mandate but also fostered camaraderie and brought smiles and hopeful deeds to its officials and employees towards pursuing its mission and vision with dedication. As Chairman Pilando said, “It takes a concerted effort, firmly joining hands together, in successfully transcending whatever circumstance that might test our commitments”.
